Does a clock resolution of 16 ms cause problems when measuring movement times around 100 ms ?

چکیده
A Monte-Carlo simulation is used to determine the effects of limited time resolution on means and standard deviations of measured movement times in a specific experimental situation. Of special interest is the question whether detection of experimental effects depend on the magnitude of the measured means and standard deviations or on the number of repeated measurements. The simulation shows that magnitude dependent effects do not occur, while an increasing number of repeated measurments yields decreasing effects of limited time resolution with an n of five being sufficient for hypothesis testing purposes. Applying the results to the experimental situation it can be shown that limited time resolution causes no problems with respect to the validity of the experimental results.

Kinematics parameter extraction of longitudinal movement of common carotid arterial wall in healthy and atherosclerotic subjects based on consecutive ultrasonic image processing
Introduction:In this study, a non-invasive method based on consecutive ultrasonic image processing is introduced to assess time rate changes of the carotid artery wall displacement, velocity and acceleration in the longitudinal direction. The application of these parameters to discriminate healthy and atherosclerotic arteries was evaluated. Methods:Longitudinal displacement rate of common ...
متن کاملMeasuring Digital System Latency from Sensing to Actuation at Continuous 1 Millisecond Resolution
This thesis describes a new method for measuring the end-to-end latency between sensing and actuation in a digital computing system. Compared to previous work, which generally measures the latency at 16-33 ms intervals or at discrete events separated by hundreds of ms, our new method measures the latency continuously at 1 millisecond resolution. This allows for the observation of variations in ...
متن کاملResolving Cosmic Structure Formation with the Millennium-II Simulation
We present the Millennium-II Simulation (MS-II), a very large N -body simulation of dark matter evolution in the concordance ΛCDM cosmology. The MS-II assumes the same cosmological parameters and uses the same particle number and output data structure as the original Millennium Simulation (MS), but was carried out in a periodic cube one-fifth the size (100 h−1 Mpc) with 5 times better spatial r...
متن کاملEvaluation of movement speed and reaction time as predictors of all-cause mortality in men.
Muscle power is associated with mortality independent of strength, suggesting that movement speed and coordination convey health-related information. We hypothesized that movement speed is a marker of longevity. Our participants included 1196 men who performed a tapping and/or auditory simple (respond to a sound) and disjunctive (respond to a higher pitched sound) reaction-time tasks while part...
متن کاملRealistic simulations on the dark rim artifact for myocardial perfusion protocols
Background and Aims Motion and Gibbs artifacts have been previously shown separately as probable sources of Dark Rim Artifacts (DRA) in myocardial perfusion imaging [1,2]. Their relative importance through the cardiac cycle for a range of typical perfusion protocols has not been fully examined. Therefore, the appearance of Gibbs, motion, and T1 and T2* k-space modulation were studied by numeric...
